2017 Beauty Favourites

Hello everyone! I’m going to try to keep my 2017 favourites as short and sweet as possible. If there’s something you’d like to know about any of these products that I don’t mention, please feel free to leave a comment with your question! Many of these are definitely Holy Grail status for me and no matter what I buy or get sent, I keep reaching for these:

FOUNDATION PRIMER: Smashbox Photo Finish Radiance Primer ($50 CDN) – I received a deluxe sample of this a while back and instantly loved it (and have already purchased the full size.) It smooths and leaves my skin with a nice bronze-y glow.

FOUNDATION: I have 2 favourites from this year that come from 2 different price points. For drugstore pick, I really enjoyed the Wet n’ Wild PhotoFocus Foundation (approx. $8-10 CDN) as well as the Estee Lauder Double Wear Nude Water Fresh Makeup ($48 CDN.) The Wet n’ Wild has medium to full coverage on me and was very buildable. Not too heavy and blends well into the skin. The Estee Lauder has light to medium coverage and is VERY lightweight. It also has skincare benefits which makes this a fantastic all around foundation.

CONCEALER: TooFaced Born This Way Naturally Radiant Concealer ($32 CDN) – I received this at Generation Beauty 2016 and it is only now getting down to the last bits in the tube (yes, I had alternated throughout the last year and a half and don’t wear concealer everyday.) No matter what, I kept going back to this one because of the lightweight coverage and the easy application with the wand.

SETTING POWDER: Makeup For Ever Ultra HD Pressed Powder ($45 CDN) – they have since changed the packaging of this powder (it is now in a rounded square matte black tin which I have also repurchased as mine has hit pan in a big way.) I love it because it’s very finely milled which makes it a dream to apply with a big fluffy brush. It doesn’t deposit any colour (hence actually being translucent) and helps set my foundation and concealer.

BRONZER: YSL Terre Saharienne Bronzing Powder (discontinued collection, picked it up for $35 CDN at the L’Oreal Warehouse Sale 2016.) This bronzer just won’t give up! I’ve been using it for over a year and it still hasn’t hit pan. It was definitely a great deal and provides a natural looking bronze shade. If you ever get a chance to snag one at warehouse prices or want to splurge, I’d say the quality is definitely worth it.

BLUSH: I kept using different ones and really had no favourites!

HIGHLIGHT: Hourglass Cosmetics Ambient Strobe Lighting Powder in Brilliant ($48 CDN) – I saw this on a Sephora employee and as I mentioned in a previous post, he looked ETHEREAL. This highlight gives at luminous glow without any shimmer. Definitely a “lit from within” type of highlight. Not too stark white, but not champagne-y.

EYESHADOW PRIMER: Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion in Original ($28 CDN) – this has been a HG for me ever since I started wearing makeup about 5-6 years ago. It makes my shadows vibrant and helps them stay on all day.

EYESHADOW: Yet again, the Lorac Pro Palette ($44 USD – not available in Canada anymore) has been my favourite. Extremely versatile with matte and shimmer shades, I’ve definitely hit pan on a few colours at this point. I’m thinking this will be its final year since I did purchase this almost 3 years ago. I may repurchase this when I head down the States sometime this year, however there are so many newer palettes in my life that I may actually be ok (lol.)

EYELINER: Another HG is the Kat Von D Tattoo Liner in Trooper ($25 CDN) – the perfect liquid liner with a brush tip (felt tips irritate my lids now.) I use this EVERY DAY and will continue to until winged liner is no longer my thing.

MASCARA: Maybelline Lash Sensational Waterproof Mascara (approx $6-$10 CDN) – doesn’t weigh my lashes down and keeps the curl at a great price point. ‘Nuff said. (And obvi my Shu Uemura lash curler is also an HG product in my collection of tools.)

EYEBROWS: EcoBrow Defining Brow Wax ($30 CDN) – all natural and when used with their brush (sold separately) is the perfect size for my brows. Not overly dramatic but definitely gives a great brow look. I use it in the shade, Liz, coincidentally and I use this everyday!

RedTooFaced Melted Matte in Lady Balls ($25 CDN) – the perfect bold red in a non-drying matte liquid lipstick. My pick for Jays games and when I just want the classic statement lip.
Berry/plumCharlotte Tilbury Hot Lips in Hel’s Bells ($39 CDN) – a demi-matte finish that is hydrating with a beautiful plum-berry shade.
MLBB – Hourglass GIRL Lip Stylo in Futurist ($40 CDN) – a retractable lip crayon that is the perfect MLBB. Not too pink, not too beige, hydrating and provides a tiny bit of shine. Definitely a purse essential.

Again, please let me know if you have any questions about any of the products mentioned. I’ve also linked relevant blog posts when possible! Thanks so much for stopping by, and Happy New Year!
