Drugstore Fail: Maybelline Vivid Matte Liquid Lipsticks

Hello  everyone! First things first: I LOVE Maybelline. I use quite a few of their products regularly (as seen here) and generally, almost everything I’ve used has been a hit. After seeing on IG that their new Vivid Matte Liquid Lipsticks were being released for Spring 2016, I was eagerly anticipating their arrival in stores. I actually stalked several different Wal-Marts and Shoppers Drug Marts the week of their targeted release to find them. When I finally did, I bought 3 because I was SO sure they’d be amazing. I am sad to say, they were a total miss. While the formula is creamy and they are highly pigmented, they are not a fully dry matte (in comparison to the Mac Retro Mattes.) The biggest problem I had (which is why I didn’t do swatches on my lips for this post) is that they made my lips BURN. It’s an odd creamy texture which is not comfortable upon first swipe and then the burning starts. It’s not even supposed to be a plumping product so I’m not sure what caused this. Chelle from Makeup Your Mind experienced numbing (but has swatches and a more extensive review here) so I was relieved and yet even more curious when I found out it wasn’t just me. Like Chelle, I also really wanted to love them – hence going to a Wal-Mart at 7:30am to see if they had put them out yet. It’s ok though, I still love their Lash Sensational mascara, Fit Me Matte + Poreless foundation and powder (which I just repurchased), Instant Age Rewind Dark Circle Eraser, and so on and so on. Unfortunately, these just did not co-operate with me and so I cannot recommend these at all.

My favourite matte liquid lipsticks are of course the Mac Retro Matte liquids and I am also enjoying my Tarte Tarteist lip paint (however there are inconsistencies with formulas…will post on that later!)

Did you have any luck with these? What matte liquid lipsticks are you loving? Let me know in the comments! Thanks so much for stopping by!
