Hello everyone! I had never heard of Paul and Joe Beaute before about a month ago, and honestly, had it not been for their Cafe Parisien Collection, I may have not noticed for a long time. But then, my friend Julie of Swatch and Review started posting pictures before the launch of this adorably packaged line and I knew I needed it in my life. I love cats. I adopted my cat, Michiko in 2008 during teacher’s college…or more accurately during the strike. But we won’t talk about that. Anyway, the Cafe Parisien Collection contains packaging featuring these beloved animals and we all know, packaging can really make a difference. Brainchild of Sophie Mechaly, Paul and Joe was originally a menswear brand named after her sons which began in 1995. A year later, her womenswear line launched, and then in 2002, Paul and Joe Beaute came into fruition. According to their site, this line “faithfully encapsulates the brand’s philosophy of fun-loving sophistication”, which is basically in line with how I’d like to describe my tastes (which coincides with my mega love for Kate Spade.) Their big message is enjoying life with a sense of happiness and well-being.
I picked up the blush/highlighter duo in #07 and lipstick in #095 Cafe Espresso – the cases are sold separately so you can pick and choose your purrrfect packaging! The blush is very pigmented and includes a highlight in a complementary colour (swatches below!) Cafe Espresso is a pinky-nude with a hint of beige and very close to a MLBB colour. I love that the lipstick is manufactured using an old Japanese candy-making technique called Kintarō-ame, which involves layering of candy (or in this case, makeup) to be rolled together. The innermost cylinder of the lipstick is shaped like a feline’s face and since it has been made using this process, the cat face shape will remain all the way to the bottom! This lipstick seriously feels like a lip balm – not too heavy, glides on smoothly, and feels very soft and hydrating. Considering it contains cocoa seed butter, jojoba oil, lavendar oil, and flower extracts, these are definitely a great pick! Swatched L-R: Cafe Espresso, blush in 07 with included highlight. The highlight gives a bit more dimension, however since I love a good highlight, I still apply a separate highlighter to really light things up.
